For some people being treated with Reiki is all they want from the Reiki experience, but for others they not only want to receive Reiki but also learn to give it.
Learning Reiki at any level is made up of two parts. The first is the 'learning' side which covers the essential knowledge you need to practice Reiki such as the hand positions in level one or the symbols that are taught in level two. The second part of Reiki is the attunement process. This process is when you are tuned into the Reiki energy as passed on from Master to student.
Having had three different Masters teach and attune me (Brent) at each different level, I have experienced three very different ways of teaching Reiki. The attunement process was not 'shown' to me until the Master level, so that part of the process is always the same and involves the same initiation.
For this reason Suzie and I have decided to extract the best of the Reiki teachings we have experienced on our journeys to develop a way of teaching Reiki to the students that may seek us out.
Having learnt Reiki Level 2 in India over 5 days in an peaceful, spiritual and exotic location where we had the time to practice and learn Reiki in a peaceful and relaxed environment; and then learning my Masters in the suburban sprawl of London over 3 days that fitted in with a busy lifestyle, it emphasized a need to develop two different ways of teaching Reiki.
There is no denying that learning Reiki 2 in India felt very special, spiritual and more satisfying. With no other concerns and time on our hands, the Reiki teachings were our main focus and it just felt 'special'.
Learning the Masters also was a very special time. It was spiritual in nature but it wasn't as focused as it was in india. During the time with our Master we were totally absorbed in what we were learning, but unlike India, once we left our Masters house we were back into the real world of London. Work had to be done, emails answered and we had to deal with the hustle and bustle of modern life until our next visit to our Masters house.
Understanding the need for both we have created two ways of teaching Reiki: one for those who have the time and want to experience their teaching in an unhurried and relaxed environment, and the other for those that want to learn Reiki but have a busy schedule to fit it around. The former Reiki teachings we call the Reiki Retreat, the latter of the teaching is the Reiki Workshops. Some of you may want to mix and match the different ways of teachings at each level. That is, you may want to workshop Level one and two but take your Masters as a Retreat. The most important thing is do what is right for you. Either way is equal to the other; for once you are attuned to Reiki you will experience changes. Once the light is turned on, it is always on even if you 'choose' not to see it.
Not all students will want to learn and be attuned to all levels of Reiki. For some Level One is all they want, while others may want to take their journey further. For those that want to expand their uses of Reiki and be attuned to Level 2; you are about to experience the energy on totally different level. Level 2 Reiki ready's you to be a practitioner (if that is what you want) or brings about a shift in your life that is subtle but noticeable. You may start use Reiki more in your life, as learning
THE THREE LEVELS OF REIKI
Most people realize that they did not find Reiki, but Reiki finds them. When one is ready, it will be there. I can't even remember how Reiki found me, but all I know within days of hearing about it I was learning Level One.
Finding the right Master to teach you is important. How you learn Reiki is dependent upon your relationship with your Master, especially at the Master Level. Usually that Master will always be there for you, and even if you do not see them after your Reiki Master attunement they will always be part of your life as they are part of your Reiki lineage.
When you meet the right Master you will just know it. If you are already seeking Reiki, then you already are tuned into your intuition. Listen to that. It DOES have all the right answers.
One question asked and that has many answers is HOW LONG SHOULD I LEAVE BETWEEN LEARNING THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF REIKI?
If we had to put a time on it we would say leave at least 3 months between Level 1 and 2. Some Masters will attune you to both Levels within a few days. If that feels right for you then do it, however we feel that if you are being opened up to a new energy it will take time to absorb, learn and live with that energy, it's uses and it's consequences. Taking Level Two too soon after Level One may not give you the time to enjoy, experience and practice the Reiki lesson and attunement you have recently received. It's like buying a guitar and learning the chords to bang out a song as quickly as possible instead of learning it over time. We think once you have had time to integrate Reiki One into your life you will be more receptive to learning Reiki two and be more open to the energy and new information that comes with Reiki Two including the sacred Reiki symbols. In saying that, you will know what is the right time for you, and if it isn't then things will just get in the way until it is.
Between Level Two and Master, again if i had to put a time on it, we believe that perhaps a full solar year, that is a complete turn of the seasons before you enter the Master Level teachings. Although, if you are drawn to becoming a Master earlier, then go with your feelings. If it is not meant to happen, than in one way or another it won't...until the time is right. All things occur in divine order.
As a Master of Reiki I will not comment on what is the appropriate time between becoming a Master and attuning others into Reiki at any of the levels. As a Master you will know what feels right for you and those you are attuning. In any case, only when you are ready will your students appear.
Reiki at Level One involves four attunements. Each Master may differ when they do the attunements, but the attunement process is the same each time. Students are also showed the hand positions used during a Reiki treatment and how to lay the hands. These hand positions basically follow the 7 chakras on the body plus a few extra hand positions. A previous knowledge of the Chakras is not necessary as these will be shown and explained to you. Students will also learn about the history of how Reiki was rediscovered by Dr Usui and how it was spread to the west by Takata. The use of intention and intuition will also be discussed.
A student at LEVEL ONE may use Reiki for self treatment or the treatment of friends and family. Although you may become a practitioner at LEVEL ONE, we advise taking LEVEL TWO to extend your knowledge and use of Reiki before becoming a professional practitioner. LEVEL ONE REIKI is usually considered a step people take who wish to be initiated into Reiki for learning, personal growth and healing.
Level Two Reiki expands on Level On in so many ways. Apart from going over Level One, Level Two sees the student get another attunement as well as the taught the three sacred Reiki symbols. We will not show you those symbols on this web site as they are meant to be sacred and only shown to those who want to be attuned to Level 2. Some of the more internet savvy of you may have already seen them on various other web sites The symbols themselves are not the power of Reiki, they are more like keys that enhance the Reiki, and you need to attuned to Level 2 by a Master using those symbols in order for them to be effective. Basically: seeing the keys and bewing given the key are two very different things. We subscribe to only showing them to Level Two students at the time of teaching as instructed by Usui.
The three symbols expand Reiki in different ways. One symbol enhances the power of Reiki creating a focus on whatever intention is being invoked when cast. The second symbol is meant to bring balance and harmony and the third symbol transcends time and space.
In Level Two the student is shown the symbols, explained the uses of each symbol and how they are applied and interact with each other in a Reiki treatment. They are taught the symbols name and mantras. Students are also taught how to apply and use the symbols in everyday life.
A student achieving the LEVEL TWO REIKI is now prepared to become a practitioner and will be given advice on the most appropriate way to set up a practice including tips like getting insurance, advertising and professional Reiki organizations.
Making a commitment to become a Master is not one to be taken lightly. It will have a profound impact on your life. Many of those that want to take the Master level in one way or another have already decided this is what they want hence they are drawn to the Master Level.
The Master Level involves one more attunement and introduces the Master Symbol to the student. All other Levels of Reiki will also be covered.
At the Master Level Chakras and Past Lives are explored and discussed. The student is shown how and when to use the Master Symbol in conjunction with the other three Reiki symbols.
The student is also instructed on how to initiate others into Reiki. They are shown the attunement process as handed down form Master to Master, and how the symbols of Reiki are used including the Hara Breath (breath of live). All this is explained, shown, taught and practiced. Master Ethics are discussed as well as well as the FOUR REIKI PRECEPTS and the NINE ELEMENTS OF USUI REIKI.
At the Master Level you will be shown your Master lineage from Usui to you.
As a Reiki Master you can do self healing, practice Reiki and attune others into Reiki. Like we said, becoming a Reiki Master changes things and many new and different opportunities will suddenly come your way.
